Rodway Hill Seniors recorded their second win of the season with a 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 victory at home over Forest Hills who were unbeaten home or away after about 6 matches already played this season. Stars of the victory were Ron Hannam and Paul Dando with a 6 & 5 win closely followed by Phil Lane and Roy Leicester who had a 5 & 4 win. Most of the other matches were much closer with a couple of 2 & 1 wins, a half, a 2 & 1 loss and one team lost on the last hole. Thanks to Alan and Victor for the use of the course and to CaterCater who provided an excellant meal after the match.

It was a bright and blustery Sunday afternoon when Rodway Hill played host to Thornbury in their third match of 2012.
With an away draw and a home win under their belt expectation was running high, but this was always going to be a tough match as Thornbury always travel well and nothing could be taken for granted.
First off were Steve T and Nigel who, after a close match eventually let their opponents stretch out a 3 hole lead which they never pulled back. 1:0 to Thornbury.
Then came Rich G and Hanif who were 3-up after three before Richard fell into the sump beside the 17th tee while trying to protect his dignity in performing what should have been a straightforward bodily function. How he explained the grass stains on the knees of his pristine Strombergs when he got home we can only speculate. Eventual winners 7&6. 1:1
Third up were Warren and Allan. Three up after three, Allan decided to play the wrong ball, but they came out comfortable winners in the end. 2:1 to Rodway
Fourth were Mike and Will who inexplicably teed off on the first before their opponents for which a fine was imposed by Des at the after-match meal. Again, comfortable winners of their game. 3:1 and all we needed now was a half to win the match.
Fifth saw Dan and Steve M-L in a tight game which went down to the 18th and Bob, Thornbury ex-Captain almost holing his teeshot. A valiant half and the match was secured. 3 ½ :1 ½ to Rodway
Finally came Des and Sean who battled their way round but lost their game. 3 ½ : 2 ½ to Rodway and relief all round.
With thanks to Alan and his team and Cater Cater for a great post-match meal we all look forward to our next match which is on Sunday 17th June 1:00pm at The Orchard.
